Jack and Sheila Feichtner are the owners of Le Mulet Rouge®. They came to commercial winemaking after careers in other fields. Jack has a background in science which he has put to good use as a vintner. He holds several degrees in physics and, prior to starting Le Mulet Rouge®, was a research scientist at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA and Lockheed-Martin in Palo Alto, CA. Sheila has a background in higher education administration and project management which she has been able to draw on in managing the business. What began as an interest in amateur winemaking in Pennsylvania started to take shape in the 1990s with formal classwork at UC-Davis and an apprenticeship at Clos La Chance winery near Saratoga, CA. Le Mulet Rouge® is a work in progress that the owners anticipate will fuel the growing demand for Amador County wines.
Le Mulet Rouge® recently received a certificate for demonstrating outstanding committment to the environment, the community, and high quality grapes and wine from the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, the Wine Institute, and the California Association of Winegrape Growers.

Spike heads security. He can make it to the fence in 3 seconds. Can you? His favorite target is the UPS man.
Webster, our rescue cat, is in charge of pest eradication. He is a superior hunter and the terminator to voles, moles, and gophers.

Our land features 2 ponds which attract turkeys, deer, quail, blue heron and an occasional fox and bobcat. We have small-mouth bass in the pond. Le Mulet Rouge® has been designated an official Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
Deer walk upon our hills, and the quail
Whistle about us their spontaneous cries;
Sweet berries ripen in the wilderness;
And, in the isolation of the sky,
At evening, casual flocks of doves do make
Ambiguous undulations as they sink,
Downward to darkness, on extended wings.

Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to produce and sell outstanding estate wines, taking maximum advantage of the soil, terrain, and weather at our property on Red Mule Road.
In doing this, we will follow these guidelines:
-
The winery operations will adhere to the best current practices of environmental safety, and safety in preparation of food products.
-
We will be a good neighbor to the landowners in our area. All operations will be conducted in a way to minimize disturbances to our neighbors, and we will bear our fair share of expenses that may be incurred by the community as a result of our operations.
-
We will treat our employees and contractors humanely, fairly and consistently, and we will always be willing to discuss problems and differences in an equitable manner.
The hallmark of Le Mulet Rouge® wines is the care taken in creating the products. The owners stress cleanliness and quality control in all aspects of production. Their goal is to make sure the vineyard and winery operations are in conformance with the “Code of Sustainable Winegrowing Practices” developed by the California Sustainable Winegrowers Alliance. Le Mulet Rouge® recently received a certificate for demonstrating outstanding commitment to the environment, the community, and high quality grapes and wine from the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, the Wine Institute, and the California Association of Winegrape Growers.
